Startling Phenomena

1. Every time I mention the word "tumour", someone pipes up with "its not a too-mah" in the voice of Arnold "The Terminator" Schwarzenegger. I had no idea that so many people have seen Kindergarten Cop and that it had such cultural currency. I'm shocked, truly shocked.

2. Roomie and I stumbled upon the hit show of the season, Dancing with the Stars, or, as I like to call it, This is American Idol for Old People. It is so craptastic, you're gonna try and turn away but you can't, you just can't. The smart money is on John O'Hurley aka." J. Peterman" from Seinfeld to win.

3. Tom Cruise and his chosen Child Bride are officially freaking me out. Reportedly, his people were putting in calls to other starlets like Scarlett Johanssen, Jennifer Garner, Jessica Alba before settling on/for Katie Holmes. *shudder*

4. I saw previews for two films with Jessica Alba right before watching Angelina Jolie in "Mr and Mrs Smith". I am pretty sure JA was cloned from AJ's DNA.

* speaking of weird Arnie moments, most are familiar with his early Conan days, but I happened to catch what appears to have been his first movie ever on tv last night: 'Hercules in New York'. It was really bad but in an engrossing, Woody Allen kind of way.

* I don't have an opinion on Katie Holmes, (or usually on any celebrity for that matter) but I will say that Tom Cruise is ALWAYS freaky off-screen. Maybe it's his huge white teeth, I dunno.

* I guess Jessica Alba is a reasonable successor of Angelina Jolie as a female action hero. After seeing Mr. and Mrs. Smith, it occurred to me that that the female action hero has come pretty recently to cinema, and Ms. Jolie is most certainly at the helm. We were trying to figure out who was the first big female action hero; my friend posited Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) from 'The Matrix'. Any other ideas?
